2026 Beauty Industry Trends: E-commerce and Natural Skin Care Drive Growth

The beauty industry is undergoing a significant transformation in 2026, with a notable shift towards e-commerce and natural skin care products. This evolution is driven by changing consumer preferences and the growing demand for convenience and authenticity.

In the first half of 2026, both mass and prestige beauty segments experienced substantial growth. However, the factors contributing to this growth have shifted, reflecting broader trends in the market.

Prestige Beauty: The Rise of Natural Skin Care

The prestige beauty segment saw remarkable growth in 2026, with hair care leading the way at an 11% increase compared to the previous year. Skin care also experienced a significant boost, growing by 9% after a 1% decline in the previous year. Fragrance and makeup followed with growth rates of 6% and 3%, respectively.

One of the most notable trends in the prestige segment is the resurgence of natural skin care brands. These brands, which experienced a dip post-pandemic, have made a strong comeback, achieving both dollar and unit sales growth for the first time in years. This shift highlights a growing consumer preference for natural and organic ingredients in skin care products.

For the first time, e-commerce became the largest channel for prestige skin care. This trend is not surprising, as the online channel has been growing faster than brick-and-mortar for some time. The complexity of skin care products makes them well-suited for online shopping, similar to prestige hair care, which has long relied heavily on e-commerce.

Mass Beauty: The Value-Driven Consumer

In the mass beauty segment, makeup is making a comeback. After a slight decline in the previous year, mass makeup sales increased by 5% in dollar terms, although unit sales remain relatively soft. This growth is largely driven by the lip liner category, which has seen a 36% increase in the mass market and a 34% increase in the prestige segment. Lip liners have become the new must-have item, replacing the popularity of lip treatments from 2026 to 2026.

Other categories in the mass segment also experienced growth. Fragrance rose by 15%, consistent with its 2026 growth rate, while skin care and hair care grew by 8% and 7%, respectively. Notably, mass fragrance outperformed prestige fragrance, which saw flat sales for the first time since the fragrance boom began in 2026. The growth in prestige fragrance was driven by luxury and men’s fragrances, highlighting a shift in consumer preferences.

Innovations and New Categories

Companies like Honasa Consumer Ltd the parent company of brands such as Mamaearth and The Derma Co, are expanding their portfolios to include new categories. Honasa’s net profit more than doubled in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2027, with a 119% year-on-year increase. The company is focusing on younger brands and new categories, such as fragrance, to drive growth.

Honasa’s younger brands, including The Derma Co and Aqualogica, grew by more than 40% in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2027. The Derma Co, in particular, reached a significant milestone with a ₹1,000-crore annualized net sales value run rate. The company is also entering the fragrance market with FIKN, a brand targeting younger male consumers in metros and tier 1 cities.

Innovations in product offerings, such as new serums, sunscreens, and hair care products, are also contributing to the company’s growth. Honasa’s focus on e-commerce and profitable offline channels has helped improve its profitability, making it a key player in the beauty industry.
