Weekends often bring a mix of personal celebrations and shared experiences. This past weekend was no exception, filled with moments that ranged from intimate family gatherings to city-wide excitement. Let’s dive into the highlights that made this weekend truly special.
The weekend kicked off with a significant milestone: Toby’s 16th birthday. It’s hard to believe that it’s been 16 years since those early days of tummy time and adorable wolf hats. Watching Toby grow and now tower over both Freddie and me has been an incredible journey. Happy birthday, Toby!
The Knicks make history in the NBA Finals
The city was buzzing with energy as the New York Knicks made their mark in the NBA Finals. The entire metropolis was painted in blue and orange, with bagels, posters, balloons, and outfits showcasing the city’s enthusiasm. Even though our family roots for the Warriors, the contagious excitement was impossible to ignore.
The Knicks’ victory over the San Antonio Spurs on June 3 was a historic moment, drawing an average audience of nearly 17 million viewers on ABC. This was the most-watched NBA Finals Game 1 since 2018, with viewership peaking at nearly 20 million viewers. The energy and anticipation for the next game on June 5 at 8:30 p.m. were palpable.
Chess battles and track season triumphs
Back at home, a friendly competition was heating up between Anton and me. Our chess face-off has become a highlight of the weekend, with Anton’s experience giving him the upper hand. However, the games are getting closer, and the strategic battles are as thrilling as they are intense.
Anton also wrapped up his school track season, a feat that always impresses me as a lifelong non-runner. The dedication and effort required for track and field are truly commendable. If you’ve ever run track, I’d love to hear about your experiences and favorite distances.
Brooklyn’s biscuit sensation
My friend Tembe, a beauty and culture writer, has a side hustle that’s been making waves in Brooklyn. Along with her wife, Tembe creates ridiculously delicious biscuits that are a must-try for any biscuit enthusiast. If you’re a fan of flaky, buttery goodness, you won’t want to miss out on these treats.
A black-tie pizza party like no other
Last but not least, we attended my friend Leah’s son’s bar mitzvah, which was anything but ordinary. The black-tie pizza party featured dancing, blackjack, and roulette, all planned by a 13-year-old. It was a testament to the creativity and fun that can come from letting young minds take the lead. I wish every party could be as uniquely enjoyable as this one.
What made your weekend special? Whether it was great books, movies, or some juicy gossip, I’d love to hear about the ups and downs that made your weekend memorable. Share your stories in the comments!
