Discover the haircare secrets of our team members

Last month, we shared our skincare routines, and the response was overwhelming. Today, we’re turning our attention to haircare, revealing our daily routines, favorite products, and the clever tricks we’ve learned along the way. From curly hair care to blowout secrets, here’s how our team keeps their locks looking their best.

Our team’s haircare routines vary as much as our hair types, but one thing is clear: we all have our favorite products and tricks that make our haircare routines a breeze. Whether you’re looking for tips on curly hair care, blowout secrets, or the best way to detangle, our team has you covered.

Alison Piepmeyer’s curly hair care routine

Alison Piepmeyerour Partnerships Director, has wavy/curly hair with lots of texture. She loves her hair and appreciates how it cooperates with whatever look she’s trying to pull off.

Alison’s morning routine depends on her mood and energy level. Sometimes she’ll do a full curly-girl routine with a microfiber towel, mousse, defining cream, and hair wrap. But more often, she lets her hair air dry into loose waves, which helps her stretch washes longer with the help of dry shampoo.

For detangling, Alison loves the T3 paddle brush because its widely spaced bristles detangle her hair without ruining the curl pattern. She washes her hair only once or twice a week, rotating between Nizoral for dandruff and hair-loss prevention, a purple shampoo and conditioner for her blonde highlights, and Odele shampoo and conditioner for regular washes.

Alison’s favorite hair-styling trick comes from following hairstylists on Instagram. She’s learned everything from how to use a flat iron to the Bowl Method for curly hair. At night, she sleeps in a silk bonnet to preserve her curls and prevent frizz. Her hero hair product? Living Proof dry shampoo.

Christine Pride’s blowout secrets

Christine Prideour Columnist, has long and thick hair that she describes as reliable. She has exactly two hair looks: a top knot/bun 80% of the time, or blown-out waves 20% of the time.

Christine uses a Tangle Teezer brush to gently work out snarls and smooth her hair. Her wash routine is simple: she uses TRESemmé Curl Shampoo and Conditionerfollowed by Nourish & Shine and Ouidad Leave-In Conditioner for extra moisture.

Blowing out her hair herself takes forever, so Christine goes to Blo Bar for a really good blowout that lasts her five precious days. At night, she sleeps with her blown-out hair in a bun in a blue bonnet. Christine tried the Rev Aira vacuum meets a blow dryer, but it didn’t give her dramatic results.

Christine gets her hair chemically straightened four times a year and has added a color rinse to cover grays. She tries to use a deep conditioner once a week to prevent damage from her treatments. Her biggest haircare lesson? It’s only hair.

Jannelle Sanchez’s haircare routine for long, wavy hair

Jannelle Sanchezour Senior Editor, has very full and long hair with a slight natural wave. She washes her hair every three days and has a simple routine for the first two days: she combs out any tangles, smooths frizzy bits with her straightener, and leaves the rest untouched.

On the third day post-wash, Jannelle’s hair is oilier, so she combs it out and pulls it into a sleek, middle-part ponytail, topped off with a layer of hairspray. She’s been using the same wide paddle brush for eight years and recently tried Hairstory’s Air Dry Kitwhich gave her more defined waves and extra volume.

Jannelle’s favorite styling trick comes from a playdate when she was six: brushing her hair before showering. At night, she doesn’t have a specific routine, but she does have a hero tool: a toothbrush for smoothing down fly-aways and baby hairs. Her biggest haircare lesson? Learning which hairstyles work with her face shape.

Joanna Goddard’s simple haircare routine

Joanna Goddardour Founder and Editor, has straight and fine hair with grays coming in. Her morning routine is simple: wash, air-dry, and that’s it. She uses a comb when her hair is wet and a Mason Pearson brush when it’s dry.

Joanna washes her hair every day using RÔZ shampoo and conditionerfollowed by RÔZ milk hair serum. She gets her hair cut by her friend Reagan Baker and her grays covered by Aliya at Fox & Jane in Brooklyn. Her biggest haircare lesson? The less, the better.

Kaitlyn Teer’s razor-cut shag routine

Kaitlyn Teerour Senior Editor, has thick and wavy hair with a razor-cut shag and thick bangs. She washes and air-dries her hair, and her stylist specializes in razor cuts.

Kaitlyn uses Hairstory’s New Wash and Hair Balm and an anti-dandruff shampoo once a month. Her favorite styling hack is applying Hair Balm while her hair is still dripping wet to lock in moisture. At night, she sleeps in a messy bun with her bangs pinned back.

Kaitlyn’s hero tool is a feather-styling razor for trimming her bangs at home. Her biggest haircare lesson? Never to put her trust in an inspiration photo.

Kelsey Miller’s fine hair routine

Kelsey Millerour Senior Editor, has super-fine but silky hair with a lot of it. She rakes out the tangles and often winds up in a ponytail by 11 a.m.

Kelsey uses the UNBrush detangling brush and washes her hair every day with Herbal Essences Grapefruit Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. Her favorite hair-styling trick is a hair-tuck trick she learned on TikTok.

At night, Kelsey sleeps on totally wet hair or uses the pineapple-bun method. Her hero hair products are Iles Formula Finishing Hair Serum and toddler hair ties. Her biggest haircare lesson? YOLO. Get the cut, try the perm, do that Angela Chase dye job your inner child’s been pining for.
