After a delightful time with family in England, the boys returned to Brooklyn to visit their dad, while Freddie and I ventured to Scandinavia to meet up with friends. This region, known for its stunning landscapes and rich culture, did not disappoint. Here’s a glimpse into our adventure.
Stockholm: A City of Sparkling Waters and Green Spaces
Our first destination was Stockholm a city that captivated us with its natural beauty. The sparkling waters, lush green grass, and clear blue skies left a lasting impression. My friend Jen, a resident of Stockholm, recommended the Ett Hem hotel, a place that truly made us feel at home.

Biking in Stockholm was a pleasant experience, as the city’s inhabitants adhered to traffic rules, creating a sense of order and safety.
On our second day, we took a ferry into the archipelago a breathtaking collection of 30,000 islands in the Baltic Sea. The ferry ride was peaceful, and I couldn’t help but reflect on the Swedish concept of lagom which emphasizes moderation, fairness, and simple satisfaction. The phrase lagom är bäst meaning the right amount is best encapsulates this philosophy perfectly.
Copenhagen: A Design Lover’s Paradise
From Stockholm, we traveled south to Copenhagen Denmark’s capital. The journey took us five hours by train, and the design-conscious city welcomed us with open arms. From bike racks to airport carts, every detail was thoughtfully crafted.
We indulged in local pastries, particularly the famous cardamom buns from Juno and enjoyed delicious folded eggs at Studio x Kitchen. Our adventures also took us to La Banchina an all-day café where we could swim in the harbor.
We spent quality time with friends Maz and Lee, who shared their experiences living between Copenhagen and Queens. Their sons provided fascinating insights into the Danish education system, which emphasizes life skills alongside traditional subjects. From mountain biking to learning to sew, the curriculum is designed to prepare students for real-life situations.
Cultural Insights and Unforgettable Moments
Our trip was filled with cultural insights and memorable moments. We dined at classic restaurants like Pelikan and Bar Nîmes and played games with friends. We also discovered unique local traditions, such as the pacifier tree where toddlers hang up their pacifiers when they’re ready to say goodbye to them.
Our final evening was spent with friend Miriam and her family. We enjoyed a delicious meal in their wild garden, which became a cherished memory of our trip. As we reflected on our experiences, we felt a deep appreciation for the beauty and culture of Scandinavia.
