Amy Lee Grant, born Amy Lee Grant, is a singer, songwriter, musician, author and media personality. She was born on November 25, 1960 in Augusta, Georgia. She is the youngest of four sisters. She is the great-granddaughter of Lillie Burton and Nashville philanthropist AM Burton, founder of the Life and Casualty Insurance Company, eponymous of Nashville’s Life & Casualty Tower, WLAC Radio and WLAC-TV.

In 1967, his family settled in Nashville, Tennessee. Grant wrote his first song, ‘Mountain Man’ in 1976. The song was first performed in public at Harpeth Hall School, the girls’ school she attended in Nashville. She recorded a demo for her parents with church youth leader Brown Bannister. When Bannister was dubbing a copy of the tape, Chris Christian, the owner of the recording studio, listened to the demo and called Word Records. She listened to it on the phone and was offered a record deal five weeks before her 16th birthday.
