BARRY SEAL DEATH
Seal was shot dead on February 19, 1986. The shooting took place in front of the Salvation Army facility on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge, where he was sentenced to work as a modification by the judge to Seal’s original plea deal.

At the guest’s request, Meese initiated an investigation to determine whether lawyers in Louisiana, Miami and Washington had mishandled the case and to determine whether or not Seal should have been held in custody.
Government lawyers said Seal put himself in danger by refusing to relocate his family and undertake a witness protection program. On March 16, 1986, a month after Seal’s assassination, President Reagan tried to bolster Congressional support for the Contras by showing one of the photographs Seal had taken on television.
He suggested that a senior Sandinista official was involved in drug trafficking. In 1991, cartel member Max Mermelstein testified that he was commissioned in December 1984 to kidnap Seal and bring him back to Colombia or kill him. The reward for kidnapping Seal was $ 1 million and the reward for killing him was $ 500.00.
