Rajinikanth was born on 12 December 1950 in Bangalore, Mysore State (present-day Karnataka), India. His father’s name was Ramoji Rao Gaikwad, who was a police constable, and his mother’s name was Jijabai, he has one sister and two brothers. Rajinikanth was the youngest of his four siblings. Rajinikanth did his early education from Government Model Primary School, Gavipuram, Bangalore, after that he did an acting course from MGR Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu.

Rajinikanth is one of the most influential film stars of Indian cinema. Rajinikanth’s massive popularity and appeal is drawn largely from his mannerisms and stylistic delivery of dialogues. He received India’s third highest honour, the Padma Bhushan, for his contribution to Indian cinema.
Apart from acting, Rajinikanth also worked as a screenwriter, film producer and a playback singer. Rajinikanth has acted in a total of 190 films, including Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, English and Bengali films. Rajinikanth made his Bollywood debut with Andha Kanoon, but he did not have that much influence in the South.
He started his life as a carpenter, then worked as a porter. His friend Raj Bahadur encouraged him to learn acting and also used to pay Rajinikanth’s acting fees at a film institute in Chennai.
He still appeared in a few films in Hindi, such as in Chalbaaz with Sridevi, Uttar Deccan, Garafat and Hum. She made her Hollywood debut in 1988 with the film Bloodstone to much fanfare in India at the time of its release. However, the film failed in the United States.
In 2007, Rajinikanth became the highest-paid actor in Asia after Jackie Chan, and took 26 crores for the film Sivaji.
