The tranquil start of the academic year at Virginia State University was shattered early Saturday morning when a shooting near the Quad Annexes left five people injured. The incident, involving multiple suspects has sparked a significant law enforcement response and cast a shadow over the campus community.
The shooting occurred just as students were settling into their residence halls and preparing for the commencement of classes on Monday. The university’s New Trojans Experience for incoming students had just concluded, adding to the sense of disruption and concern among the student body.

Officers from the Virginia State University Police and the Chesterfield County Police responded to the scene just before 1:30 a.m. They discovered five individuals suffering from gunshot wounds outside campus dormitories. The campus was immediately placed on lockdown, which was lifted around 9 a.m. as the investigation progressed.
The injured individuals were transported to area hospitals. One victim, initially listed in life-threatening condition, has since been upgraded to critical. The other four sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The university has not released the identities of the victims nor confirmed their affiliation with the institution.
