Pop Star Chappell Roan Launches Exclusive M.A.C. Viva Glam Collection

Chappell Roan, the pop star known for her distinctive musical style and bold aesthetic, has ventured into the beauty world with her first-ever collaboration with M.A.C. Cosmetics. Announced on June 9, this partnership marks a new chapter in Roan’s career, merging her artistic flair with the iconic Viva Glam campaign.

The collection, set to launch on June 11, includes three limited-edition lip products that encapsulate Roan’s unique beauty signature. Each item is a testament to her theatrical stage presence and personal style, translated into wearable everyday lip colors.

The Collection: A Blend of Theatricality and Wearability

The Chappell Roan Viva Glam collection features three standout products: UnNatural Red Heada cherry-red matte lipstick inspired by her signature hair color; Roan of Arca plum lipstick-balm hybrid; and Damnsela sheer red-plum gloss with gold shimmer. These shades are a direct reflection of Roan’s signature makeup, offering fans a chance to embody her bold and creative spirit.

For the campaign, Roan’s makeup artist, Andrew Dahlingpaired UnNatural Red Head with M.A.C.’s Vino lip pencil. The look was completed with a powdery white complexion, stacked lashes, glittery jewel-toned shadows, and a trio of blushes, including M.A.C.’s Glow Play Cushiony Blush in Plush Pepper. The campaign photos, shot by the renowned duo Inez and Vinoodhreimagine Roan in a darkly romantic French Revolution fantasy, showcasing her drag-inspired glam.

Inspiration and Storytelling

Dahling’s approach to Roan’s makeup is rooted in character-building. He explained, “I’ve learned it’s helpful to invent a character and play from her.” Drawing inspiration from various archetypes, Dahling envisioned Roan as a romantic aristocratic empress in a hyperbolic 1940s film or during the French Revolution. This creative process helped shape the campaign’s aesthetic and the collection’s design.

The packaging of the collection is equally intricate, featuring a custom sword-and-heart crest that adds a narrative element to the products. This attention to detail underscores Roan’s commitment to storytelling, both in her music and her beauty ventures.

A Cause-Driven Initiative

In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the Viva Glam collection is a fundraiser for causes close to Roan’s heart. Since its inception in 1994, the Viva Glam initiative has raised over $545 million for organizations advancing sexual, gender, racial, and environmental equality. With this collection, 100% of the selling price will be donated to these causes.

M.A.C. is also making a $300,000 donation to Roan’s nonprofit, the Midwest Princess Projectand its partner organizations. This contribution highlights the collaboration’s commitment to making a positive impact beyond the beauty industry.

For fans eager to recreate Roan’s look, the collection will be available both in stores and online starting June 11. This launch not only offers a new way for fans to connect with Roan’s artistry but also supports meaningful causes, making it a win-win for beauty enthusiasts and advocates alike.
