David Carrick, a 46-year-old police constable who worked for the Metropolitan Police’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, has been charged with rape.
Carrick, who has been suspended, was detained on October 2 by Hertfordshire Constabulary.
He was due to appear at Hatfield Magistrates Court by video link on Monday, October 4th.

After allegedly assaulting a lady on September 4 of last year, Carrick was charged with one count of rape and sent to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
Commissioner Cressida Dick stated, “I am extremely disturbed to learn today that an officer from the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command has been detained and charged with this severe offence.”
“I completely recognize that the general public will be concerned as well.
I am unable to speak further at this time since criminal procedures must now proceed.”

Carrick and Couzens may or may not have been working in the Parliamentary Protection section at the same time.
“The CPS has today authorized Hertfordshire Constabulary to prosecute serving Metropolitan Police officer David Carrick, 46, with one count of rape following an alleged attack on a lady on the night of September 4, 2020,” said Malcom McHaffie of the CPS.
The defendant’s first court appearance will take place at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court tomorrow at 10 a.m. via video connection.
The Crown Prosecution Service reminds everyone that criminal proceedings against the defendant are ongoing and that he is entitled to a fair trial. “It is extremely important that no reporting, commentary, or sharing of information online could in any way prejudice these proceedings,” says the Crown Prosecution Service.

Wayne Couzens, a British police officer, previously admitted to kidnapping and raping marketing professional Sarah Everard.
Couzens, 48, also acknowledged to murdering Everard, but he was not asked to enter a plea to a murder charge.
Everard, 33, went missing on March 3 in Clapham, south London, triggering a massive police inquiry that grew in intensity until her corpse was discovered in a Kent woods a week later.
The Metropolitan Police officer appeared in front of the judge via video connection from Belmarsh jail, dressed in khaki pants and a grey sweater.
Lord Justice Fulford read out one count of rape and one count of kidnapping during the half-hour-long hearing.
Couzens kept his head down as he replied, “Guilty, sir,” confessing to kidnapping Everard on March 3 “unlawfully and by force or deception.”
