Concert Etiquette: The Rise of Unfortunate Incidents and Public Reactions

In the world of live music, there’s a new trend that’s been causing quite a stir. It’s not a new band or a groundbreaking performance, but rather, an unusual and somewhat unsettling phenomenon. Recent concerts have seen a rise in incidents of attendees experiencing, shall we say, unfortunate moments that have left both the audience and the artists in disbelief.

This isn’t about the usual concert mishaps like spilled drinks or lost phones. No, this trend is far more unusual and has left people questioning the state of concert etiquette. Let’s delve into the details of these incidents and explore the public’s reaction to this bizarre trend.

Incidents That Made Headlines

On June 26, a concert by Noah Kahan at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia made headlines for all the wrong reasons. A viral TikTok posted by a fan showed the aftermath of an incident where an attendee apparently had an accident in her seat, tracking the mess across the floor. The singer himself addressed the issue on X and during his next show in Toronto asking the audience to solemnly swear not to sh*t their pants.

But this wasn’t an isolated incident. Just days earlier, on June 23, a similar episode occurred at a 5 Seconds of Summer show in Fort Worth, Texas. A TikTok showed venue staff mopping up feces spread across the floor during the performance. And not even a week before that, Olivia Rodrigo mentioned noticing the stench of fans wearing diapers to secure front-row spots at her shows.

The Aftermath and Reactions

Shannon, who was sitting behind the offender at Kahan’s show, described the incident as both shocking and disruptive. She noticed the person straining in her seat before the unfortunate event occurred. It’s clear she just didn’t want to miss the show Shannon said, but the decision ruined the experience for everyone in that section due to the lingering smell.

Chelsea Dubow, who shared the viral TikTok, was sitting in the row ahead of the offender. Her husband unfortunately stepped in some of the mess. It was funny at first because I truly couldn’t believe my eyes she said, but the humor quickly wore off. The stench lingered, leaving her group, including her seven-months-pregnant sister, to stand off to the side for the remainder of the show.

Another TikTok user, Megan, posted about a similar experience at the 5SOS show. She described the scene as somebody had explosive diarrhea and expressed empathy for both the offending party and the venue staff who had to clean up the mess.

The Public’s Response

The crude nature of these incidents quickly turned them into memes. On TikTok, 5SOS’s Ashton Irwin joked about I ❤️ 5SOS diapers coming soon. Kahan’s TikTok account used the hashtag #wafflestomp, and one attendee even referenced the incident in her Instagram caption, writing maybe the girl who pooped herself is in the background of these somewhere 😭.

While the incidents were undoubtedly embarrassing for those involved, the public’s reaction was a mix of humor and frustration. Shannon acknowledged the frustration but also empathized with the offending party, understanding the embarrassment of having such a moment go viral.

Breanna Daughtry, who attended the Fort Worth show, has experienced poor concert etiquette at 5SOS shows before, but this incident was by far the most extreme. She praised the band for addressing the issue in the best way they could, acknowledging that such incidents are not a daily occurrence at concerts.

So, what’s the takeaway from these unusual incidents? Perhaps it’s a reminder of the importance of concert etiquette and the need for better facilities and awareness to prevent such mishaps in the future. Or maybe it’s just a series of unfortunate accidents that have captured the public’s attention. Either way, it’s a trend that’s left everyone scratching their heads and hoping for a return to more conventional concert experiences.
