The Dialog conference, a private, invitation-only event founded by Peter Thiel and Auren Hoffman was set to take place at the Powerscourt Hotel in Enniskerry, Ireland from August 12 to 16. However, the event was canceled following a guest list leak that exposed the names of over 200 attendees and sparked public backlash.
The leak, revealed by a Bluesky user in June exposed the conference’s website misconfiguration, leading to widespread scrutiny and conspiracy theories. The guest list included notable figures such as Elon MuskNATO commander Alexus GrynkewichUS Treasury secretary Scott BessentJared Kushner and Senator Ted Cruz among others.
The Controversial Guest List and Public Reaction
The leaked guest list included a diverse range of individuals, from tech billionaires to political figures and celebrities. The conference’s itinerary, which included activities like scone makingsheepherding and whiskey tasting alongside panels on topics like World War III and cult-building raised eyebrows and fueled public interest.
Several attendees, including New York Times columnist Ezra Klein and actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt shared their experiences with the conference. Klein described the event’s shift from an optimistic, hacker-ish vibe in 2018 to a curdled and resentful atmosphere in 2026. Gordon-Levitt highlighted the diversity of opinions among attendees but distanced himself from Thiel.
The Irish Public’s Response and Protests
The Irish media and public focused on the event’s host, the historic Powerscourt Estate and the controversy surrounding Thiel’s involvement. Members of the Oireachtas Ireland’s parliament, called for the event’s cancellation and demanded transparency regarding government representatives’ participation.
Labour Party spokesperson Duncan Smith argued for the event’s cancellation, stating that the public had a right to know if any government representatives were planning to attend. Sinn Féin lawmaker John Brady went further, calling for the event’s cancellation due to Thiel’s role as co-founder of Palantir which Brady claimed was central to facilitating Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Protests were planned by North Wicklow Against Genocide with demonstrations scheduled for July 12 and August 9 at the Powerscourt Hotel. The group called for the event’s cancellation, stating that technofascists and billionaires are the enemy of all ordinary people.
The Powerscourt Estate’s Stance and Event Cancellation
The Powerscourt Estate which owns the land on which the Powerscourt Hotel is located, stated that it had not been informed of the event until the leak in June. The estate expressed its willingness to cancel the event but was bound by a lease agreement with the hotel’s operator, the MHL Hotel Collection.
Following public pressure and legal consultations, the Powerscourt Estate announced the cancellation of the Dialog conference. The estate’s statement read, Following a period of great concern for Powerscourt Estate and on foot of discussions with the Powerscourt Hotel, we are relieved and pleased to announce the Dialog event planned for August at the Powerscourt Hotel has been canceled.
